Wondrous waterfowl

5/1/2014

Waterfowl season is finally in full swing, and we are very happy! A couple of big things happened over the last weekend, and I am excited to share them with you!

Firstly, we had our second goose hatch of the year. During the first week, we only hatched a single American Buff gosling. The second week we had a much better hatch, which included our first Sebastopols. Tonight we move our third group of eggs into the hatcher, at last count it was about 20 eggs.

The little goslings grow like weeds! These two photos were only taken four days apart. The left image is three Sebastopols, two females and one male. The right image is the same group, just with some American Buffs also.

The next big news is that we purchased a pair of White Chinese geese. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will still be able to get a few fertile eggs yet this hatching season, but more than likely we will begin hatching White Chinas next year.

The chicken hatches are still gradually increasing... but no where near the hatches we were having last year. Hopefully the season can still turn around....We sure hope so, because we have lots of patient customers awaiting chicks! The Pastel Call Ducks are still all fertile, and we are setting lots of Snowy, Buff and White eggs. It's only a matter of time before we will have ducklings. Stay tuned for some pictures of the tiny little buggers! :) And lastly, just for fun, here is a recent photo of one of our Sebastopol young males. Thanks for reading!     ~Kaylyn
